The tipping point: Dianne’s story of double knee replacement

Posted on

Dianne Shepherd remembers the night well. She calls it “the tipping point.”

While she loved her job waitressing at a Lancaster restaurant, knee pain was making Dianne’s work increasingly challenging. She had dealt with the pain of osteoarthritis for almost 20 years. But one evening as she finished her shift, she knew it was time to do something about it.

“At the end of a night of work, I could hardly walk to the car. And when I got home, I could hardly get out of the car. The quality of my life had really plummeted.”

The active 53-year-old mother of four chose to have two total knee replacements, six weeks apart, at the Lancaster General Health Orthopedic Center.

Dianne is thankful for care she received before, during and after her successful surgery.

Today she is back to doing what she loves—participating in activities with her family, gardening, and enjoying her work and the customers she serves.

“I forget what it used to be like when I couldn’t do things,” Dianne said. “I can basically do everything I want to do. The pain is completely gone. It’s wonderful.”
